The Circle: A European Network of Indie Media Hubs

Over the last five years, Are We Europe (AWE) has been working on innovating the media and journalism landscape across the EU and beyond. Towards the end of 2021, we helped the organisation and their three project partners secure over €844,000 from Creative Europe for The Circle.

Running from January 2022 to December 2023, The Circle project will be setting up 10 media knowledge and production hubs in second-tier European cities, bringing together creatives, journalists, and other entrepreneurial media professionals looking to collaborate on media projects.

As we’ve come to expect from AWE’s initiatives, this project has storytelling at its heart. Legacy and indie media organisations will explore new digital formats and fresh business models to collaboratively create a narrative about the media in their city. In the longer term, these hubs will feed into a broader and more sustainable media network with a focus on knowledge and expertise sharing.
